On July 1, Ms Vanessa Hymas took over from Ian M Rickwood as IMIS Chief Executive. 
With a Master of Business Administration degree and more than 20 years experience working with the IMIS membership and Council, Vanessa is well qualified to lead the Institute into its next decade of providing IT education and membership services to IT professionals around the world. 
"I am very much looking forward to the challenge ahead," says Ms Hymas. 
"As part of Ian's team, we delivered one of the most recognised and respected IT qualifications in parts of Asia, Africa and the Caribbean. 
We need to continue to deliver education excellence into these markets while at the same time looking for ways of involving more of our overseas members in the work of the Institute.”

Career Opportunities

Information technologies have created satisfying and rewarding career opportunities for millions of people around the globe. 
They are also transforming the way in which people network and interact with each other. 
This has implications for all traditional membership organisations such as IMIS, which must now come up with innovative ways of engaging members and delivering services. 
"Busy professionals no longer have time to attend meetings or seminars," observes Hymas. 
"We have to  find other ways of bringing our members together and ensuring they have access to all the information they need to pursue fulfilling careers." 

A further aspect of the IMIS mandate is to raise the profile of IT professionalism and promote its standards with projects such as the new ETHICOMP studies. 
Chair of Council, Professor Simon Rogerson, said: "We believe that Vanessa's business development expertise, combined with an intimate working knowledge of the needs of the IMIS membership and council governance, are the ideal skills to drive our strategy for the development of the Institute over the coming years."
