Qualification for membership in IMIS is obtained through one of two routes:
Professional:
Based upon an evaluation of the applicant’s experience, and conditional upon receipt of a suitable professional reference.
Examination:
Based on progression through the IMIS framework of formal examinations. For those wishing to embark on the examination syllabus, there is further information available from the Secretariat or on the website page Qualifications.
IMIS uses an intelligent online application system, based on the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA),
that can return an instant assessment of your qualification and grade. Using this system, you can register as a student member, apply for full membership or request an upgrade to your existing membership online.
To use the online application, you must first register with us. Registration does not take more than ten minutes and your details will be kept on our system when you become a member. Start your registration now.

You can request a list of IMIS registered colleges where you can study the IMIS qualifications and a ist of examination centres where you can sit your IMIS examinations by contacting central@imis.org.uk
IMIS is a professional institute; membership implies specific levels of qualification and achievement in your profession, as well as your intention to abide by the IMIS Code of Ethics.
Your application is an important document. Information you provide on the form enables us to assess your suitability for membership and determine which grade would be most appropriate. Please ensure that the information you give is complete and accurate. As part of our processing procedures we may confirm details with relevant institutions, your proposer and your referee/s (please see IMIS Privacy Policy).
Please note that the result given to you by the application system is an indication of the level of membership you may qualify for. Confirmation of your suitability for this grade will be made by IMIS on receipt of the application details and following consultation with your proposer and referees.
